Our Story
We first opened our doors back in 1857 as North Oxford Wesleyan Methodist.
45 years later, in 1902, we became known as Banner Methodist.
Finally, beginning in 1925, we adopted our current name of Banner United Church.
We have graced the same plot of land in tiny Banner, Ontario for 160 years and counting. Throughout all of these years, many things have changed. However, we pride ourselves in the fact that Banner United Church continues to be a place of gathering and community for individuals of all walks of life. Here at Banner, as long as you come in with a smile, we'll make sure you leave with one.
In June of 2015, we hosted our last regular Sunday service as the church community recognized that a new direction needed to be taken. We unfortunately could no longer sustain regular Sunday services. However, we were not ready to say goodbye to this 160 year old building.
After two years of uncertainty for the church, our board members voted to begin a new chapter in our long history.
We have now committed to four grand services per year. An Easter service, an anniversary service, a harvest service and a Christmas service. Since these are our only services of the year, we make sure to do them right. The church is packed, fantastic musical entertainment is provided, and more great memories are added to Banner’s long and happy history.
